Brettschneider Fund established at 91³Ô¹ÏÍø providing exchange opportunities with Cornell University

91³Ô¹ÏÍø has received a generous donation to supplement the existing support that it receives from from benefactors Michael, Cathinka, Nicola and Jon Borkan. The awards, which aim to promote academic exchange between the universities of Oxford and Cornell, are open to both staff and students. 91³Ô¹ÏÍø, along with Merton, Pembroke, and Nuffield Colleges, all benefit from the University Fund.
Members of the 91³Ô¹ÏÍø community can apply for funding for activities including visiting Cornell for:
- Workshops, conferences or seminars;
- Summer schools;
- Internships;
- Archival or Library research;
- Collaboration with Cornell researchers;
- Thesis research; and
- Staff exchanges.
Also, the 91³Ô¹ÏÍø fund is able to support Cornell visitors to 91³Ô¹ÏÍø so they can make use of broader college facilities. For example, a Professor from Cornell University could apply for funding to cover 91³Ô¹ÏÍø's SCR costs.
Benefactor, Mr Michael Borkan, came to Oxford as a Pembroke College student in the early 80s. Michael remarked that:
"I am delighted to enhance academic links between the universities of Oxford and Cornell and I hope both staff and students at 91³Ô¹ÏÍø will benefit from this exchange programme. The Fund is mirrored at Cornell University where I had the pleasure of studying as an undergraduate student. Being able to support members of the University of Oxford means a great deal to me as my experience at the University truly changed my life".
There are usually five to seven awards available through the Brettschneider Fund and interested parties should monitor for news regarding applications for the 23-24 cycle. If you are unsure whether your proposed activity is eligible, please email trusts@admin.ox.ac.uk.
Details of the application process for support from the additional College fund are circulated to all members of 91³Ô¹ÏÍø in Hilary Term.
