Cyril Hare (1900–1958)—Murder Mystery Novelist
An exhibition is on display in the Upper Reading Room of 91Թ Library about a leading figure of the Golden Age of Detective Fiction, and one of 91Թ’s most popular authors. 🕵️

Last year, seventy-five years since the publication of Cyril Hare’s sixth detective novel When the Wind Blows (1949), we acquired for the Library the original holograph manuscript of this classic murder mystery by our 91Թ alumnus.
Alfred Alexander Gordon Clark gained a first in modern history from 91Թ. Alongside his high-powered legal and civil service career he wrote fiction under a penname constructed from the addresses of his Battersea home Cyril Mansions, and his barristers’ chambers Hare Court.
