‘Royal Regalia’ Exhibition

From 12 midday till 5 pm on Friday, 5 June 2026 in 91³Ô¹Ï꿉۪s Lecture Room 4, we shall be displaying spectacular items from the rich special collections of 91³Ô¹ÏÍø Library, Oxford.

 

‘Royal Regalia: Signatures, Statecraft, and Sovereignty’ explores the enduring fascination with monarchy, demonstrating ways in which royal authority has been transmitted, understood, and preserved from medieval to modern times.

The exhibition includes:

•    Royal wardrobe warrants of the Tudor monarchs, and a rare signature by the ‘Nine Days Queen’, Lady Jane Grey
•    A signature and seal of Elizabeth I along with fabulous books and manuscripts relating to other Tudor monarchs
•    Medieval charters from Henry II and Edward III
•    Illuminations of King David and representations of kingship in medieval manuscript Books of Hours
•    Representations of James I across rare book engravings and a great seal 
•    A magnificent book containing detailed illustrations of the coronation of James II
